UFC 124 Predictions

Posted: January 15, 2011 in Uncategorized

Fight scheduled for December 11 2010

GSP vs Josh Koscheck
This match up has some history behind it. This will be the second time GSP and Kos have squared off in the octogon. Here is how I feel though…GSP is very good at what he does. He controls the fight and takes the fight where he wants to. I think he’s going to go for the same approach from UFC 74. He’s going to control the action for the length of the fight and not allow Kos to capitalize where he’s strong. So I’m going to go with GSP unanimous decision.

Sean McCorkle vs Stefan Struve
With the exception of the Roy Nelson upset, Struve has been finishing fights lately and I think this fight will be similar. I expect Struve to win by KO in the 1st round.

Charles Oliveira vs Jim Miller
Jim Miller has been on an impressive 5 win streak and I think he’s going to take home his 6th tonight. His fights have been going to decisions lately so I think tonight he will pull out the stops and end the fight early on with a submission.

Joe Stevenson vs Mac Danzig
I’m not entirely thrilled about either of these fighters but I think Joe has the heavier hands and hopefully has improved his ground game a bit. So I’ll say Stevenson by KO 2nd round.

Thiago Alves vs John Howard
First off let me say that Thiago is a scrapper! The man determinately is capable of dealing some major damage within 15 minutes. I’ve seen Alves take on some of the best in the past and wind up victorious, so judging by Howard’s recent loss and weak conditioning by comparison I think Thiago will easily pull out this victory. Unanimous decision for Thiago.

Results:

Georges St-Pierre def. Josh Koscheck via unanimous decision
Stefan Struve def. Sean McCorkle via first-round TKO
Jim Miller def. Charles Oliveira via submission (kneebar)
Mac Danzig def. Joe Stevenson via first-round KO
Thiago Alves def. John Howard via unanimous decision

UFC 123 Predictions

Fight scheduled for November 20 2010

Lyoto Machida vs Rampage Jackson
I am stocked about this fight because it’s one of my dream fights. I am a fan of both fighters and have much respect for both of them and their distinct fighting styles. Rampage is coming off a decision loss from Rashad Evans so I think he’ll be bringing it all to the table. That being said Lyoto is known for being able to weather a storm. I see this fight going for the full time but I don’t think Lyoto will be able to maintain the distance he needs to keep Rampage from winning the points game. Rampage ftw.

Matt Hughes vs BJ Penn
This fight is my reason for venturing out to see UFC 123 in person. I am a big Matt Hughes fan and this being an old grudge match makes for even more entertainment. The two last met up at UFC 63 and Matt Hughes took the victory in the 3rd round. This is what I expect. Matt Hughes has the endurance and conditioning advantage, where Penn is more slippery and flexible. If the fight last past the 1st round I predict a win by Matt, however it would not suprise me if Penn surprises Hughes early on. Being a fan I’m hoping for a repeat of 63. I’ll be hopeful and say Matt Hughes round 3 submission or TKO.

Maiquel Falcao vs Gerald Harris
Both of these guys have had impressive win streaks in their careers. However I do feel like Falcao will do more damage in the fight and squeak out a decision over Harris.

Phil Davis vs Tim Boetsch
Davis has been undefeated in his MMA career and I think he has the tools at his disposal to take out Tim Boetsch. I think the fight will end by submission in Davis’ favor probably the 3rd round.

Joe Lauzon vs George Sotiropolous
Joe Lauzon has had some impressive wins lately but if the fight goes to the ground as I imagine it will, I feel that George is better in that area and will likely catch Lauzon in a submission late in the fight.

Results:

Rampage Jackson def. Lyoto Machida by split decision
BJ Penn def. Matt Hughes via first-round KO
Maiquel Falcao def. Gerald Harris via unanimous decision
Phil Davis def. Tim Boetsch via submission (kimura)
George Sotiropolous def. Joe Lauzon via submission (kimura)

UFC 122 Predictions

Fight scheduled for November 13 2010

Nate Marquardt vs Yushin Okami
I have a lot of respect for the training camps that Nate Marquardt hosts for other fighters, so I’d be unimpressed if he didn’t work equally as hard on himself. Yushin Okami has made his share up upsets however (Mike Swick) so I wouldn’t be surprised if Nate takes him lightly given his absense in the the octogon lately. I’ll pull for the underdog here and say it’ll be Yushin Okami unanimously.

Dennis Siver vs Andre Winner
Given Dennis Silver’s recent win over Spencer Fisher I think that he is the better fighter compared to Andre Winner. Andre is coming off a loss but I don’t think he’ll be able to stand out against Dennis. So I’m going to say Dennis Silver ends it early in round 1 hopefully by submission.

Peter Sobotta vs Amir Sadollah
I haven’t followed these fighters very much but given their previous fights I think this one will go the distance. If I had to pick someone it’d be Amir Sadollah.

Duane Ludwig vs Nick Osipczak
Don’t have too much background on these guys so I’m going to go with Nick because it’s about time he prove himself. The kid needs a win.

Results:

Yushin Okami def. Nate Marquardt via unanimous decision
Dennis Siver def. Andre Winner via submission (rear-naked choke)
Amir Sadollah def. Peter Sobotta via unanimous decision
Krzysztof Soszynski def. Goran Reljic via unanimous decision
Duane “Bang” Ludwig def. Nick Osipczak via split decision

Transitioning after the Holidays

Posted: January 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

So I’ll admit like everyone else I got a little slack during the holidays. I was keeping up with the fights I just haven’t had time to post on here until recently. As of today I will begin bringing over all of my UFC fight predictions from my Facebook Notes page to here.

Being a MMA(Mixed Martial Arts) fan, I’ve been reading numerous MMA blogs and have come to a realization. That I can do better! So starting today I’m going to begin blogging about the MMA matches that appeal to me. Keep in mind I’m not just some random blogger trying to get a word out. I have a background and general understanding of mixed martial arts including, Brazilian Jujitsu, Muy Thai, Kick-Boxing, and Unorthodox fighting. My blogs will consist of my own an overall fight analysis, fighter forecast, and of course my personal opinions. I hope that I can gain a decent following from fellow MMA fans. Feel free to let me know how you feel.
