UFC 121 Predictions for Brocktober

Posted: January 14, 2011 in Predicitons

Fight scheduled for October 23 2010

Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez
This happens to be a very important fight for me. I am a big Brock Lesnar fan and I hope that Brock doesn’t make the same mistake that he made against Mir the first time. I know he’s coming off the win against Carwin but I fear that he may be underestimating Cain. Cain is a serious contender for the heavyweight belt and I think that tonight he will prove it. So as much as I would like to see Brock win I’m going to say that Cain finds that sweet spot in the first or second round….KO.

Martin Kampmann vs Jake Shields
Jake Shields did very well for himself at Strikeforce and while I don’t hold anything against Martin Kampmann’s abilities I think it will be a close call. I do think that the fight may slightly sway towards Shields advantage due to his precision in his most recent fights and this being his UFC debut he’s going to have something to prove. So Shields by decision.

I’ll be perfectly honest, I think Diego Sanchez is a complete ass. He talks a lot of trash and I’ve never been a fan off people who get pushy at weigh-ins. However he can fight when he has the motivation. In this fight I feel that Paulo Thiago is the better, more well-rounded fighter. He’s faced more dangerous foes than Diego and come out victorious. So I’ll say Paulo Thiago by submission 2nd round.

Matt Hamill vs Tito Ortiz
In my opinion Tito needs to quit while he’s ahead. He was good back in the day but he seems more washed up when compared to some of young guns in the sport. He is however a fantastic coach on the Ultimate Fighter so maybe that’s what he should stick to. I’ll say Matt Hamill by unanimous decision.

Brendan Schaub vs Gabriel Gonzaga
I think in this fight Schaub will have the conditioning to wear down Gonzaga like Randy did. So Schaub by unanimous decision.

Cain Velasquez def. Brock Lesnar via first-round TKO
Jake Shields def. Martin Kampmann via split decision
Diego Sanchez def. Paulo Thiago via unanimous decision
Matt Hamill def. Tito Ortiz via unanimous decision
Brendan Schaub def. Gabriel Gonzaga via unanimous decision

UFC 120 Predicitions

Posted: January 14, 2011 in Predicitons

October 16th 2010

I’ll be honest I really wasn’t too caught up in this card. The only fighters I’ve really followed closely are Dan Hardy and Michael Bisping. The other decisions I’ve made off the other fighter’s previous fights and not much more. I also don’t feel like this card is full of explosiveness outside the top two fights.

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs Michael Bisping
I know that Yoshihiro is no joke but I really feel that Bisping has this one in the bag. I do think that the fight will go the distance but I believe the decision will be unanimous for Bisping. He has been impressive and had endurance in his past fights and I think this one will be similar.

Dan Hardy vs Carlos Condit
Honestly I haven’t seen many of Carlos’ fights and I am a big Dan Hardy fan. I also think Hardy should be more in his element due to the fighting location being close to home. A homefield advantage if you will. So I’ll say Dan Hardy by knockout in the 2nd.

Mike Pyle vs John Hathaway
Mike Pyle has proved himself in the past so I’m going to say Mike Pyle squeaks it out to a 3rd round decision.

Cheick Kongo vs Travis Browne
I’m going to favor Kongo and say that he’ll have a KO by the 2nd round 3rd at the latest. I just don’t feel like Browne will be able to last the entire time.

James Wilks vs Claude Patrick
I know that Patrick is new to the UFC but he has an impressive record and after the way he dealt with Ricardo Funch I’m going to say tonight will be more of the same. I’ll say Patrick will out-grapple and control Wilks for a 3rd round unanimous decision.

Results:

Michael Bisping def. Yoshihiro Akiyama by unanimous decision
Carlos Condit def. Dan Hardy via first-round KO
Mike Pyle def. John Hathaway via unanimous decision
Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne ruled a draw
Claude Patrick def. James Wilks via unanimous decision

UFC 119 Predictions

Posted: January 14, 2011 in Predicitons

On September 25th I’ll be heading to see UFC 119 featuring:

Frank Mir vs Mirko Cro Cop
I personally have never liked Mir’s interviews and am really not impressed with his overall attitude but I think he has this fight for a couple of reasons. Don’t get me wrong Cro Cop is a legend but I do not think that he will be able to keep up with the new Mir I’ve seen. Mir took the loss to Lesnar very personal and has been training really hard to prove his worth in the stacked heavyweight division. I’m going to say Mir by TKO 3rd round.

Ryan Bader vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
This is going to be a bit of a biased prediction for me because I’ve followed Bader for a while. Bader in my opinion is the future of the sport, he ups the ante for the conditioning of this weight class. The Nogueira brothers have always offered wonderful training camps for other fighters and are well versed but I don’t think that Little Nog is going to be able to tough through Bader. Unfortunately its time for the old school founders to play catch up with the new kids on the block. I think the fight will go the distance and will end with a unanimous decision for Bader.

Chris Lytle vs Matt Serra
Chris has won his last 2 fights by submission but Serra is well versed in BJJ so this fight will probably go the distance and end in a decision. I think the judges will go with Lytle.

Sean Sherk vs Evan Dunham
Sherk hasn’t fought in quite a while but I think judging from his interview and training camp that he’s taking this fight seriously. It’s time for him to have a win but I think it will be after a 3 round war.

Melvin Guillard vs Jeremy Stephens
Melvin is relatively new to the UFC but he’s not to be taken lightly. Judging from his 2 recent victories I’d say he is the more probable victor over Jeremy Stephens. I’d say it’ll be by TKO late in the 2nd round but I wouldn’t be surprised if the match goes the distance.

Results:

Frank Mir def. Mirko Cro Cop via knockout
Ryan Bader def. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via unanimous decision
Chris Lytle def. Matt Serra via unanimous decision
Sean Sherk def. Evan Dunham via split decision
Melvin Guillard def. Jeremy Stephens via split decision

Frankie Edgar vs BJ Penn:
Frankie impressed everyone with one of the most controversial upsets in MMA history. I feel that he will do it again. Penn obviously underestimated Edgar during their last fight. I feel that Frankie impressed us all with his solid wins leading up to his title shot. I’m thinking that we will see a similar upset. BJ doesn’t seem to have the endurance of Frankie he had in his former fights. I predict Edgar as the more active fighter, coupled with his superior cardio he’ll probably bob in and out landing strikes. I see Penn getting gassed after the 2nd round and ultimately losing again to Frankie.

Randy Couture vs James Toney
To me this fight is a no-brainer. I predict that The Natural is just going to decimate Toney. Toney is a one-dimensional fighter. All he has is his boxing. Randy has no problem taking on larger opponents i.e. Tim Silvia. Basically Randy is a true mixed martial artist and simply brings more to the table. I would love to see Randy beat Toney at his own game but I would rather see him take him to the ground and finish him in true MMA fashion.

Kenny Florian vs Gray Maynard
The Bully(Maynard) has gotten recognized for “bullying” his opponents around the ring via his wrestling skills. Florian has the tools to put a stop to Maynard’s run. Florian is going to force Gray to fight differently. Florian being very technical will have the advantage on the ground and in my opinion on the feet as well. Hoping for Florian to put Gray out late in the 2nd round.

Damian Maia vs Mario Miranda
Maia is coming back after his loss to Anderson Silva. I think were going to see Maia make quick work of Miranda on the ground. Miranda with his striking and takedown defense is going to want to keep it on the feet. I predict a 2nd round submission by Maia.

Nate Diaz vs Marcus Davis
Davis does not seem to be getting better with age. He has been racking up some consecutive losses lately and I fear he has another one coming. He seems to have loss the explosiveness and endurance of his younger years. I predict that the younger and hungrier Diaz will make quick work of Davis.
